Addison, Perry Take Silver on Opening Day of #ACCOTF

Day 1 Results
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Alexis Perry and Jonathan Addison took home silver medals in the long jump, as NC State opened the first day of action at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Wolfpack also qualified several athletes for final heats on Saturday.
Team Standings:
Both the men and women's track and field teams sit in sixth place in the overall team standings after the first day of competition.
Hammer Throw:
Joshua Davis led the way for the Pack in the opening event, finishing 10th in the hammer throw. His throw traveled 193'7.00", while Jule Rich finished the competition in 15th place with a mark of 182'9.00". Davis is currently 49th in the region and may be eligible to compete depending on the entries.
On the women's side, Nicole Chavis took third in her flight with a throw of 174'1.00", while Alyssa Dunn finished in sixth in the flight with a throw of 162'6.00". Overall Chavis finished 10th, just six feet from earning a spot in the final round of competition.
Long Jump:
Addison was the first athlete of the day to score points for the Wolfpack. He jumped to a season-best mark of 25'5.50" in the long jump, winning his second-consecutive silver medal at the ACC Championships.
Addison led after four attempts in the competition. However, Florida State's Jalen Ramsey edged out the Raleigh native in the fifth jump to take gold. Addison improves his regional mark from 17th to 5th and jumps into the top-15 of national standings. His finish also earned eight points for the men's team.
Perry was the second Wolfpack athlete to win silver in the long jump. The Durham, N.C., native took an early lead after her first jump, but after strong jumps from her competition, sat in fourth place with just one jump remaining. On her final attempt, Perry soared 20'3.00" to earn a spot on the podium and score eight points for the women's team.
Decathlon:
Grant Rivers sits in 13th place after the first leg of the decathlon. Rivers finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 20'5.00". He will conclude the final five events on Friday.
400m Hurdles:
The 400m hurdlers opened competition for the Wolfpack on the track. Erin Jenkins finished in 11th place with a mark of 53.65, while Josh Gandy finished 15th with a mark of 55.03.
200m:
Paisley Simmons was the first NC State athlete to book her spot in Saturday's finals. She flew past her competition to win first place in her heat and fourth place overall with a mark of 23.66. Simmons currently holds the 20th-best mark in the region and is ranked 40th nationally in the 200m dash.
1500m:
Three Wolfpack runners advanced to the finals in the 1,500m run. Graham Crawford dominated his race, earning a first-place finish in his heat to advance to Saturday's final. Crawford crossed the finish line in 3:50.20.
John Wolfe also had a strong race, as he blew through his seed time to take 14th in the overall competition. Wolfe's time of 3:48.10 is a new season high by more than five seconds. His mark was just seconds away from qualifying for the finals
On the women's side, Samantha George and Megan Rempel took second in their respective heats to book their spots in the final. George finished seventh overall with a mark of 4:22.80, while Rempel crossed the finish line in 4:25.32 for 13th place.
George dominated her heat, holding either the first or second position for the majority of the race. Rempel ran half of the race in the middle of the pack, before making a strong move for second place and a spot in Saturday's finals.
10,000m:
Joanna Thompson picked up valuable points for the women's team with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000m. Thompson led for a stretch of the race and held onto to her scoring position for the entire 25 laps. The senior crossed the finish line in 34:59.04.
On the men's side, Sam Roberson powered his way to a ninth-place finish. Roberson started the race near the back of the pack but worked his way into the leading group. He stayed close with the race's leaders, and crossed the finish line in 30:15.37.
