Pack Starts Strong at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- NC State wrapped up its first day at the Penn Relays with three top-five finishes. Alexis Perry took third against a strong field of long jumpers, and Joanna Thompson and Erika Kemp earned high marks against some of the nation's top distance runners.
Jumps:
Perry got things started for the Wolfpack, recording a third-place finish in the women's long jump championship. Perry's mark is a season high and is currently ranked 38th in the nation and fifth in the ACC.
Relays:
Perry, Tiana Patillo, J'den Williams, Paisley Simmons finished first in their heat in the women's 4x100 relays with a time of 47.36, beating out Villanova, Coastal Carolina and Army.
3,000m:
Erika Kemp took fifth in the women's 3,000m championship with a mark of 9:36.42.
5,000m:
Joanna Thompson ran in her second 5,000m of the year, finishing third and just seconds shy from her season high with a mark of 16:12.99. Kaitlyn Kramer finished 28th with a time of 17:10.29.
On the men's side, Sebastian Hanson led Wolfpack athletes, finishing 17th in the men's championship with a time of 14:19.04. Sam Roberson came in 24th with a time of 14:32.09. Both have already qualified for the ACC Championships with marks in previous meets.
In the men's 5,000m college race, Bakri Abushouk earned third place after crossing the finish line in 14:26.51. His time is .18 from qualifying for the conference championships. Nick Link rounded out the race for the Pack, coming in 24th with a time of 14:54.74.
Patrick Sheehan paced the Pack in the men's Olympic Development 5,000m race. The freshman finished sixth with a time of 14:35.79.
Up Next:
The Wolfpack's relay teams and Alexis Perry in the 100m hurdles and Paisley Simmons in the 100m dash will compete on the track, while SeQuoia Watkins and Tremanisha Taylor will compete in the discus.
