NC State baseball extended its winning streak to seven games with a 10-6 win on Tuesday night over Charlotte, before a crowd of 8,147 there to witness the first college game played at BB&T Ballpark.
The Wolfpack (18-9) put two on with nobody out in each of the first three innings, and cashed in a single run to take a 1-0 lead in the top first. The Pack took a 3-0 lead in the third on Andrew Knizner's two-run shot to left.
Charlotte (10-13) trimmed that lead to 3-2 in the bottom third. State added one in the fourth and two in the fifth to stretch the lead back to 6-2. The 49ers' three-run sixth closed the gap again, but the Pack would add an insurance run in the seventh and three more in the ninth to win 10-6.
Charlotte high school products Logan Ratledge and Jake Fincher enjoyed banner days, with Ratledge going 2-for-3 with two walks, while Fincher submitted a 3-for-5 night with a double, a triple, a run, and an RBI. Fellow area prep standout Tommy DeJuneas pitched the final two innings for his third save of the year, fanning two while allowing one unearned run on one hit.
Nine of the 10 Wolfpack batters who appeared contributed at least one hit. Knizner went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs, a walk, and his second homer of the year. Joe Dunand parked his fourth longball of the season, part of a 2-for-4 night with two runs and four RBIS.
Wolfpack starter Ryan Williamson (2-1) scored the win on a career-long 5 1/3 innings, punching out a career high eight batters, while allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk. Williamson retired the first six batters faced with four strikeouts.
Jon Olczak was the first reliever out of the pen, lasting 1/3 of an inning. Will Gilbert relieved him, shutting out the 49ers for the next 1 1/3 on one hit and a walk with one strikeout.
NC State returns to action on Thursday to host the first of a three-game series with Florida State. All three games will stream on ESPN3. Radio duties will be handled by 88.1 WKNC. Fans can also follow along with live stats from GoPack.com, or Twitter updates via @NCStateBaseball.
