Frantova, Stenta Advance to Final Round at USTA Clay Court Invitational

Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta of the women's tennis team will compete in the tournament championship Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta are one match away from a tournament championship at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Clay Court Invitational. The Pack players advanced to the final rounds of their respective brackets after quarterfinal and semifinal sweeps on day three of play.
Frantova earned two monumental victories over ranked opponents on Saturday. In the quarterfinals she defeated No. 66 Daneika Borthwick of No. 39 Florida State, 6-2, 6-4 before netting a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 5 Josie Kuhlman from No.6 Florida in the semifinal round of Gold singles play. Kuhlman is also the top seed in the tournament.
Frantova's latest victory marks her third win over a top-ranked opponent at the Clay Court Invitational. In her opening match she defeated No. 37 Kennedy Schaffer of No.5 UGA 7-5, 6-4, also the No. 8 seed.
Stenta also swept in her quarterfinal and semifinal White singles match-ups on Saturday. She earned a 6-3, 6-1 quarterfinal win over Lara Rush of Florida State and a 6-1, 6-2 semifinal victory over Kelly Williford of Virginia Tech.
The duo of Stenta and Taylor Zaytoun faced defeat in the quarterfinal round of doubles competition, falling 8-1 to Katherine Butler and Sansitha Nandakumar of Virginia Tech.
Frantova and Stenta will conclude play at the USTA Clay Court Invitational in the tournament finals Sunday at 9 a.m. at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Stenta will face off against No. 1 seed, Tristen Dewar of No.18. Frantova will play No. 41 and No. 4 seed, Ilinca Stoica of No. 30 Virginia Tech. Gold finals competition will stream live on ESPN3.
