
Thompson, Parsons Punch Ticket to NCAA Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Senior Joanna Thompson and redshirt sophomore Sam Parsons earned the right to compete at the NCAA Championships thanks to a stellar showing at the 2014 Southeast Regional Championship in Louisville, Ky. on Friday.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind., at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course.
Thompson ran a time of 20:25.10 in the 6k race to finish fourth, while Parsons ran another career-best time in the 10k race with a 30:16.9 pace, breaking his previous record by four seconds. Parsons also ran a career-best in the 6k race at the ACC Championships on Oct. 31, in Earlysville, Va.
Both squads finished fifth, respectively, at the championships; the men totaled 142 points while the women completed the race with 106 points.

Thompson and Parsons will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. Both squads will await the complete 2014 NCAA Championship field, set to released by the NCAA at 3 p.m. tomorrow to see if it will receive an at-large bid.
