Pack Volleyball Outlasted by No. 3 Florida State

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's volleyball team raced out to a quick 1-0 lead in the match, but the third-ranked Florida State Seminoles rebounded to defeat the Wolfpack, 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17) Friday night inside Reynolds Coliseum.
The Pack falls to 13-9 overall and 2-8 in ACC play, while Florida State remains undefeated at 22-0 and 10-0 in the conference.
Match Rewind
- The Wolfpack opened the match on a 10-4 run fueled by out-blocking the Seminoles, 4-0, during that stretch. Kaitlyn Kearney led the Wolfpack with two kills and three total blocks during the run. Florida State would climb to within one, 17-16, but the Wolfpack won the next six points on the way to winning the frame, 25-18.
- Florida State opened the second set with a 9-4 advantage, before the Wolfpack answered with five of the next eight points to trim the lead to 12-9. Florida State went on to win the frame by a 25-17 margin.
- The Pack opened the third set with a 7-3 lead before the Seminoles rallied to take a 9-8 advantage. The two teams traded points, as NC State regained the lead, 17-16. After a total of 10 ties and six lead changes in the set, Florida State slipped past NC State to win the set by a 25-19 margin.
- Florida State opened the fourth set with a 10-5 lead, but the Wolfpack rattled off the next three points to close the gap to 10-8. The Seminoles went on to win the frame, 25-17.
Key Performers
- Dariyan Hopper and Erica Narel paced the Wolfpack's offensive attack with nine kills, while Morgan Cormier and Alesha Wilson notched seven kills apiece. Perry Ramsey also registered five kills.
- In addition to recording a career-high nine kills, Narel recorded a team-best .600 hitting percentage, which was also a season best for the freshman. The Fairfax Station, Va., native also chipped in with four blocks.
- Sophomore Maggie Speaks dished out 37 assists, while also contributing six digs, a team-best five blocks and three kills.
- Defensively, Maddie Brown and Rachel Eppley led the Wolfpack with nine digs each, while Alston Kearns and Speaks chipped in with six apiece. Kearney also recorded four blocks for the Wolfpack.
