RALEIGH - The NC State women's soccer team dropped its match against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami on Thursday evening, falling by a final score of 3-1 on the Wolfpack's senior night.
Prior to the match, NC State celebrated the careers of its four seniors: Jessica Baity, Rachel Harris, Kasey Koballa, and Julia Sandridge. Combined, these four Wolfpackers earned 14 semesters on the Dean's List and an average GPA of 3.52.
A hat trick from Miami's Natalie Moik proved to be the difference in Thursday's contest. Other than her strong individual effort, the Pack was able to limit the rest of the Hurricanes (3-12-1, 1-6-1 ACC) to eight shots.
"We're not complete right now," said head coach Tim Santoro. "We have a lot of moments where we have control of the match and are a decent team, but right now we're just not complete enough to put together a whole game."
The Wolfpack continued to play without 2013 leading scorer Jackie Stengel, starting midfielder Gladys Loyas and starting defender Michelle Oestreich. All three of these Wolfpackers are sidelined by injury.
Miami jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Erin McGovern crossed the ball to Moik, who was able to snap home a header at the near post.
The Wolfpack would answer back shortly thereafter on Saager's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Freshman and German international Franziska Jaser dispossessed her counterpart in the midfield and played a nice through ball to her classmate. Saager took a touch to extend her breakaway and smashed a hard shot into the back of the net to level the match.
Moik then added two goals on the each side of the halftime break, finding the back of the net in the 21st and 51st minutes to bring the match to its final score.
NC State (2-12-2, 0-8-0 ACC) will next be in action on Sunday, Oct. 26 at home against No. 2 Florida State. Kickoff from Dail Soccer Field is set for 1 p.m.
