Pack W. Golf Ties for Third at Spartan Invitational

San Jose, Calif. – NC State posted a final round 301 to finish tied for third in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational at 33-over par 897 Tuesday. The two-day, 54-hole event was held at the par 72, 6180-yard Almaden Golf and Country Club.
The Pack was 19 strokes behind team-champion Stanford (12-over 878) and nine back of second-place Washington. It tied with defending-champion California. UC Davis was fifth at 39-over 903.
“This was a great opportunity for our team to learn how to play on new surfaces –especially the poa annua greens,” head coach Page Marsh said.
“We also had the opportunity to see top-20 teams from the West Coast that we don’t typically get to compete against. As a coach, you want your players to be as prepared as possible to manage any of the three NCAA Regional sites to where we could be sent.”
Junior Brittany Marchand led NC State, tying for fifth place in the individual standings, with a three-round total of 5-over 221 with a final-round 2-over 74. Fellow junior Ana Menendez had the second-best showing for the Pack, tying for 11th at 8-over 224 after carding a 3-over 75 in Tuesday’s final round.
Sophomore Augusta James tied for 14th at 9-over 225, and her classmate, Vivian Tsui, tied for 31st at 15-over 231. James recorded a 5-over 77 on the last day, while Tsui had a 78 on the final day.
Sophomore Lindsay McGetrick tied for 36th after carding a 3-over 75 to complete the tournament at 16-over 232. ­­
The Pack returns to action March 22-24 at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
