WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 13 Wake Forest held on Thursday night for a 4-2 win over the NC State women’s soccer team at Spry Stadium.
NC State (5-12, 0-8 ACC) received goals from Jennie Krauser in the 20th minute and Shannon Colligan in the 52nd minute.
Wake Forest (11-3-3, 5-2-1 ACC) scored twice in the first 18 minutes to jump out in front early, including Katie Stengel’s goal in the fourth minute.
Rachel Nuzzolese added the Demon Deacons second of the night, however, Krauser answered just minutes later with her fifth goal of the season to cut the Wolfpack deficit to just 2-1.
A miscue by the Wake defense allowed Krauser to score off an assist from Wolfpack keeper Victoria Hopkins.
Nuzzolese struck again in the 26th minute on a penalty kick to regain the 2-goal margin for Wake at 3-1.
In the second half, Colligan found the back of the net for NC State to again cut the deficit back to just one goal at 3-2.
Colligan’s fourth goal of the season came off an assist from freshman classmate Sharon Wojcik, who sent a through ball that was collected by Colligan and she chipped her shot over the keeper.
The Wolfpack had a couple late scoring chances from Kaley Shlaes and Jessica Baity, but Wake goalie Aubrey Bledsoe made her only two saves of the night to maintain her clubs lead.
Ally Berry scored at 89:18 for the Deacs to seal the win.
Hopkins made four saves for the Wolfpack in her first start since Sept. 30 against No. 1 Florida State.
NC State plays its final road match of the season at Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
