Softball Handles Coastal Carolina, 8-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Landon Warren went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in leading NC State to an 8-2 win over Coastal Carolina at the Wolfpack Challenge on Friday, March 5. Stephanie Call knocked in three runs, and Alicia Abbott drove in two.
The win pushes the Pack’s record to 10-7, while the Chanticleers move to 5-8.
Lindsay Campana (7-2) allowed four hits and struck out nine in six innings of work, while Morgan Peeler got the final three outs and allowed one earned run. Katelin Edwards (2-3) took the loss for Coastal Carolina.
Call belted her team-best seventh long ball of the year to put the Pack ahead in the bottom of the first. Warren and Alyssa Allbritten both singled before Call mashed a three-run shot.
The Chanticleers got an unearned run in the top of the second on a fielding error at first with two outs.
Warren pushed the Pack’s lead to 5-1 with her first career home run in the bottom of the second. Bridget Desbois led off the inning with a base hit, and Krystal Hawkins ran in her place before Warren went deep.
Coastal Carolina had runners on second and third in the top of the fifth, but Campana caught Stacy Snellings swinging to end the inning.
The Wolfpack resumed scoring in the bottom of the fifth with its final three runs. Allison Presnell got things started with a base hit and later took second when Kristine Bechtholdt walked. Desbois later plated Presnell with an RBI knock, before Abbott scored two more on a bases loaded double.
NC State will take on Georgetown (4:30 p.m.) and Stony Brook (6:30 p.m.) tomorrow, Saturday, March 6, on the second day of action at the Wolfpack Challenge.
