TAMPA, Fla. – NC State softball dropped a close 2-1 affair to Hofstra on Friday, Feb. 19 at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Tournament. Alyssa Allbritten led the Wolfpack with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including a home run and a double.
The loss moves the Pack to 4-3 on the year, while the Pride climb to 2-0.
Morgan Peeler (1-1) took the loss, allowing one earned run and four hits. Olivia Galati (1-0) got the win for the Pride, limiting NC State to four hits.
Two walks and a booted grounder at short loaded the bases for Hofstra in the top of the first. Laura Valentino then sent an RBI fielder’s choice to second, giving the Pride an early 1-0 lead.
Allbritten evened the score in a hurry, belting a solo dinger to left in the bottom half of the inning.
Jess Hirschbuhl hit a solo homer of her own in the top of the second, pushing Hofstra back ahead at 2-1.
The Pack had two chances to manufacture a run in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t punch anything in. Lauren Peters reached and advanced to second on a throwing error, but was gunned down attempting to steal third. Allbritten later doubled and Krystal Hawkins advanced to third in her place but was left stranded.
NC State will play two more games tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20, at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Tournament. The Pack will face South Florida (3:45 p.m.) and Wright State (6 p.m.)
