
Women's Golf Finishes 13th at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico Lauren Doughtie and Emily Street shot a pair of two-over rounds of 74 during final day action on Tuesday to lead the NC State women’s golf team to a 13th place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Course.
As a team, the Wolfpack improved after each day. On Tuesday, the red and white fired a team total of 301 (+13), which was two shots better than yesterday’s 303 (+15). During Sunday’s opening round, the team had a 308 (+20) in its first action of the spring season.
All together the Pack put together a 54-hole score of +48 (308-303-301=912) to finish 13th.
Doughtie’s 74 on Tuesday put her in a five-way tie for 26th at +8 (75-75-74=224).
Street moved up seven slots from yesterday to finish tied for 31st at +10 (77-75-74=226).
Stephanie Derrey shot her second straight three-over 75 to finish tied for 52nd at +13 (79-75-75=229).
Sisters Joanna and Julie Saleeby finished tied for 68th and 70th respectively. Joanna wound up at +18 (77-78-79=234), while Julie finished at +19 (79-78-78=235).
Sixteenth-ranked Alabama moved up from fourth place to win the event with a team score of 880 (+16) behind a 290 in the final round. No. 27 LSU held onto second with a 296 on Tuesday for a total of 883 (+19). No. 17 Kent State and No. 30 TCU finished tied for third at 887 (+23).
Purdue’s Maude-Aimee Leblanc fired the lowest round of the day with a 68 to finish alone in second place behind Stacy Lewis of Arkansas. Lewis, the 2007 NCAA individual champion, earned medallist honors for the third time this year after firing a 70 to finish with a three-round total eight-under par 208. LeBlanc's three-day total was four-under par 212. South Carolina's Benedicte Toumpsin fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish third at 214.
The 2008 Lady Puerto Rico Classic was held at the Coco Beach Golf Course, a 6,000-yard, par 72 course at the Coco Beach Resort.
