CARY, N.C. Leading scorer Lindsay Vera scored once and assisted on another goal in leading the NC State women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Francis Marion on Sunday afternoon at SAS Soccer Field No. 2.
The Wolfpack wasted no time in getting on the board in the first minute of play. A Katie Ruiz corner kick bounded off a host of pursuers that found the foot of Briana Cunningham, who beautifully one-timed her shot into the upper-left corner of the net just 57 seconds into the match.
Vera made it 2-0 at the 9:59 mark with her eighth goal of the season. Her 20-yard blast went into the upper-right corner past Francis Marion keeper Jacque Sutphin.
In the second half, Vera was the distributor this time for the Wolfpack. She deftly placed her pass onto the foot of a hard-charging Nadia Aboulhosn form the left flank. The NC State freshman was one-on-one with Sutphin and she beat the keeper to the low side for her second goal of the year.
Freshman keeper Rachel Barnette earned her first collegiate win in net for the Pack. She did not need to make a save all afternoon in 90 minutes of action.
The Wolfpack controlled play throughout, holding a commanding 15-3 shot advantage.
NC State hosts Wake Forest on Thursday in its final home match of the season at 3:30pm at Method Road.
