CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Freshman Sabrina Lukasik scored her first collegiate goal for NC State in a 4-1 setback at No. 7 North Carolina Thursday in ACC women’s soccer action at a soggy Fetzer Field.
The Wolfpack trailed 3-0 when Lukasik tallied an unassisted goal at the 70:24 mark of the match. A failed clear by the Tar Heels led to an empty netter for the Chesapeake, Va., native.
Yael Averbuch scored twice to pace North Carolina (14-3, 8-1 ACC), while Casey Nogueira and Robyn Gayle each pushed across one goal apiece for the Tar Heels.
Nogueira opened the scoring with her team-leading 10th marker of the season at the 23:54 mark of the first half. Averbuch added her first of the evening just before halftime to give UNC a 2-0 advantage at intermission.
Gayle struck for her goal just five minutes into the second half at the 50:50 mark.
After Lukasik found the back of the net for NC State (5-8-3, 0-7-1 ACC), Averbuch took a pass from Whitney Engen and scored at the 83:24 mark to cap the evening festivities.
The Tar Heels had 22 shots in the match, while NC State had three.
