
Gymnastics Crushes UNC and GW

Chapel Hill, N.C. - After putting together a quality meet just Friday night, the NC State gymnastics team blew away the competition on Sunday afternoon and had its top meet of the season. The Wolfpack posted a season-high score of 195.700 and easily defeated fellow EAGL conference foes North Carolina (194.350) and George Washington (192.775) in a meet hosted by North Carolina. NC State notched the top team score on all four events, and claimed the individual top spots on both bars and floor.
NC State had a strong showing on vault, netting a team score of 48.975 and having four gymnasts score at least a 9.8. Junior Rachel Katz put together a score of 9.85 and finished second on the day. Senior Kylah Bachman and sophomore Leigha Hancock were close behind with their matching scores of 9.825 and tied for fifth. Junior Katie Ozburn was eighth with a 9.8, and sophomore Heather Zolton rounded out the scoring with a 9.675.
Over on bars, the Pack put together a team score of 48.900, with a pair of NC State gymnasts sharing the title. Zolton and freshman Elyse Adams both posted a 9.8, and each claimed their first bars title of the season. Bachman and junior Amanda Jones tied for fifth with their scores of 9.775. Sophomore Kelsey Lee was seventh with a 9.75.
NC State's best event on the day was beam, with a team score of 49.050. Hancock was the Pack's top finisher with a 9.85 for second place. Bachman was close behind in third with a 9.825. Ozburn and Zolton each had a 9.8 and tied for fifth, while Jones rounded out the scoring with a 9.775 for seventh.
On floor, the Pack posted a team score of 48.775. Hancock saved her best performance for the floor, claiming the title with a 9.85 and in the process besting the defending NCAA national champion. Bachman was fourth with her 9.775, and freshman Ashley Shepard took fifth with a 9.75.
In the all-around, the Pack had both competitors gain scores of 39.000 or better. Bachman finished with a 39.200 for second place, while Zolton was fourth with her 39.000.

NC State will return to home action this Friday night, hosting Michigan State at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
