Doughtie 13th, Wolfpack 7th at Land Fall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. NC State posted its second best finish of the fall season with a seventh-place showing at the three-day, 54-hole Landfall Tradition hosted by UNC Wilmington at the par-72, 6,115-yard Jack Nicklaus Course layout at the Country Club of Landfall.
The Wolfpack maintained its hold on seventh place among the 12 teams in the field with a combined team score of 308 on Sunday. The Pack shot a total of +76 (317-315-308) and improved each day over the length of the three-day tournament.
Michigan State rallied in the final round, shooting a 7-over 295, and actually tied Virginia for the championship in the final standings. However, the Cavaliers were named tournament champions by virtue of the fifth player’s score; Virginia’s Whitney Neuhauser shot an 80 on Sunday, while MSU’s Mandi MConnell had an 81.
NC State sophomore Lauren Doughtie shot a two-over-par 74 in the final round and wound up 13th overall at 229 (+13). The Suffolk, Va. native had one of the two eagles tallied in the tournament on the par-five 8th hole on Sunday to post her low round of the fall for the third time. Doughtie finished as the Pack’s top performer for the third straight tournament, while also posting her third consecutive top-20 finish.
Michigan State’s Sara Brown garnered medallist honors with a four-stroke victory over the field. Brown was the lone competitor to finish in the red as she showed a -1 (215) on her scorecard. She shot an even-par 72 on Sunday after posting scores of two-over 74 and three-under 69 in the two previous rounds. Mandi Goins of Wake Forest fired a two-under-par 70 in the final round to place second.
Also for the Wolfpack, Nancy Mountcastle finished tied for 28th with a three-day total of 235 (79-78-78). Jessica Vincent wound up 37th with a 241 (87-76-78), while Kristin Vincent, in only her second collegiate tournament, tied for 38th at 242 (81-83-78) and Stephanie Derrey placed in a tie for 45th at 246 (82-81-83).
This event concludes the Wolpack’s fall season. The team is back in action on February 23-25 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, which is held at the Cocoa Beach Golf Club in Puerto Rico.
