
Ballerano Posts Top 20 Finish In Women's Golf Opener

HANAHAN, S.C. - The NC State women's golf team opened its 2004 fall season Monday and Tuesday with a 10th place in the College of Charleston's Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall. Lorraine Ballerano led the Wolfpack at seven-over par, tying for 16th place. The junior from Myrtle Beach, S.C., carded a one a one-under score in the final round.
Ashlee Dean, who led the squad with seven birdies in the tournament, finished 11-over and tied for 32nd place. Molly Birmingham was 12-over and tied for 36th, while Colby Cobb and Jessica Vincent ended up 18-over and 19-over respectively.
NC State was 11-over in the first round and 10-over in the third round, but scores ballooned inbetween, as the Wolfpack turned in a 23-over team score in the second round.
LSU won the 16-team tournament with a nine-over total and Rachel Smith from Virginia was the medalist, firing a 68 in the final round and finishing four-under.
The Wolfpack returns to action Oct. 1-3 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the Mason Rudolph Classic at the Ironhorse Golf Course.
