
Track In Action at Both Clemson and Virginia Tech

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field team had a busy weekend, sending athletes to both Clemson and Virginia Tech. The Pack's sprinters, thowers and jumpers traveled to Clemson and competed in the Clemson Invitational. NC State's distance runners all traveled to Virginia Tech for the Virginia Tech Invitational.
On the men's side in the field events at Clemson, James Rowell took third in the weight throw (17.88m). Chris Crawford was 12th in both the weight throw (15.16m) and the shot put (13.58m). In the pole vault, Eric Hoverstad was 10th (4.45m).
Also at Clemson in the sprints, Monterrio Adams took ninth in the 400 meters running a 49.60. Also in that race, Omarr Wells was 17th (51.18) and Jeff Baird was 18th (51.62). In the 60 hurdles, it was Antwan Graves in 14th (8.53) and Kevin Davis in 20th (8.87). Graves was also 24th in the 200 meters (23.33). In the 60 meters, Matt Minnick was 24th (7.29). Sajid Reshamwala was 15th in the 800 meters (1:59.83).
At Virginia Tech, NC State claimed the top two spots in the mile. Char Pearson won the mile with his time of 4:13.86, and Jesse Rhodenbaugh was second running a 4:14.19. Also in that race, Matt Kassouf was 23rd (4:28.09), Phillip Stafford was 25th (4:28.51), and John Henderson was 26th (4:28.68). Pearson was also NC State's top finisher in the 3,000 meters, finishing second with a time of 8:17.15, while Colin Cronin was 18th (8:58.44). Kassouf was also 20th in the 800 meters (2:01.79).
Felicia Fant had another strong meet in the sprints at Clemson, as she broke her own school record in the 60 meters. Fant won the 60 meters running a NCAA Provisional time of 7.41. Courtney Patterson also ran well in the 60 meters, finishing third with a time of 7.57. Fant also placed fourth in the 200 meters (24.59), while Patterson was 10th (25.13), and Rodgers was 20th (26.22). Also in the 60 meters, Nasheena Quick was 13th (7.71) and Joya Rodgers was 15th (7.77). In the 60 hurdles, Quick finished seventh with a time of 8.75. In the 400 meters, Laurie Strothers was 29th (1:09.08). Georgia Davis was 13th in the 800 meters (2:22.29).
Kelly Smoke finished seventh in the weight throw (17.45m) and 10th in the shot put (13.36m). Brie Ward was 17th in the weight throw (13.30m) and 24th in the shot put (10.60m). Sheena Dawkins finished ninth in the long jump (5.65m). In the pole vault, Teresa Reed was seventh (3.50m). Laila Thomas captured ninth in the high jump (1.58m).
While the sprinters and field eventers were in Clemson, the distance runners were quite busy at Virginia Tech. Kristin Price turned in a top finish of second place in the mile running a 4:53.09. Also in the mile, it was Kristinia Roth in 11th (5:04.05), Claudin Hull in 14th (5:06.42), Lucinda Hull in 15th (5:07.37), Erin Swain in 19th (5:11.12), Kara Price in 22nd (5:12.92), and Amy Arnold in 26th (5:16.68). Also bringing home a second place finish was Julia Lucas in the 3,000 meters with her NCAA Provisional time of 9:34.86. Also in that race, Ginger Wheeler was 18th (10:20.99), Jennifer Boyd was 20th (10:21.64), Michelle Popple was 21st (10:23.88), Leslie Jimison was 22nd (10:23.96), and Janelle Vadnais was 27th (10:50.02). In the 800 meters, Kristin Price was 16th (2:19.90), Claudin Hull 17th (2:20.00), Karen Medlin was 23rd (2:24.97), and Kara Price was 2:28.44).
