CLEMSON, S.C. - Wolfpack Falls to Clemson 3-0
NC State women's soccer fell to Clemson, 3-0 on Friday, Oct. 3, in Clemson, S.C. The Wolfpack drops to 6-4-1 (0-2 ACC), while the Tigers improve to 7-2-1 (1-0 ACC) overall.
Clemson took control early in the first half posting three shots in the first 10 minutes. NC State came back after earning several throw-ins to take back some control defensively. Freshman midfielder Mandela Schumacher-Hodge turned a ball after freshman defender Megan Buescher launched it towards her feet. Clemson's keeper Lauren Whitt was there to make the save however. The momentum shifted again to the feet of the Tigers when junior midfielder Kate Clifton scored at 19:01 from 16 yards out on the left side. For the Wolfpack, senior midfielder Lindsey Underwood subbed into the match and immediately upped the tempo. Within one minute she turned a ball, on the right side from Buescher's throw-in, but lost it after a close mark from the Clemson keeper. The Tigers came back in the 24th minute to net their second goal of the evening. Freshman midfielder Courtney Foster connected for her sixth goal of the year from right-center just inside the box. Overall, Clemson controlled the shots category with a 12 to three advantage. Corner kicks were even at one. The Pack's goalkeeper Megan Connors collected two saves, while r-freshman Michelle Crocker swept one out at the right post. Whitt finished with three saves as well.
NC State held Clemson without a shot for nearly 32 minutes of the second half, but it wasn't enough to keep it from scoring. The Tigers earned their third goal of the night after sophomore Allison Graham took a free kick from the left side that landed on the forehead of sophomore Yaneash Donaldson inside the keeper box. The Pack controlled the second half early on, earning three shots, including a close call by sophomore midfielder Lydia McBath. Senior forward Adrienne Barnes dribbled around the Clemson defender on the left side towards the endline and passed it into McBath who then kicked it high in an attempt to rise above the head of Whitt. Junior Erin Griswold collected two shots from the right flank, but sailed wide. Sophomore Lindsey DeLorenze finished with two shots, including a second half effort that landed into Whitt's hands. Underwood also finished with two shots. Overall, Clemson held a slight edge in shots on goal with a six to five lead. For the Tigers, Foster led with six shots, two on goal. Whitt finished with five saves, while Connors made two saves for the Wolfpack. As a team, Clemson had 16 shots to nine from NC State. Each team totaled two corner kicks.
NC State will head home to host the Navy Midshipmen on Monday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m., in the Method Raod Soccer Stadium.
