Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team defeated both Maryland and Ohio State Friday night in the home opener for the Wolfpack. NC State took top honors with a team score of 193.850, Ohio State was second with a 192.275, and Maryland took third with a 191.900.
Once again the Wolfpack's strongest event of the night was bars, where the Pack landed a team score of 48.950. Sophomore Kelley Kello took home first place honors with a score of 9.875. Senior Marlyn Madey and junior Leah Sabo tied for second with scores of 9.825. Rounding out the top-10 for the Wolfpack was freshman Kylah Bachman in sixth (9.725), and senior Adina Stock in seventh (9.7).
NC State also scored well on both beam and floor. Kello had another top finish on beam, placing third with a score of 9.775. Sophomore Cori Goldstein took home fourth with a 9.75, and Bachman was eighth (9.725). On floor, Sabo was NC State's top finisher with her score of 9.8 for fourth place. Goldstein was sixth with a 9.775, and senior Cara Dougherty was ninth (9.75).
The Wolfpack started the night on vault, and landed three gymnasts in the top-four. Junior Molly Pennington recorded her top career finish, a third place showing with a score of 9.65. Classmate Cheryl Potacco and Sabo each scored a 9.6 and were fourth. Goldstein captured her third top-10 finish in her three events, with a 9.55 for ninth place.
Sabo won the all-around with a score of 38.775.
NC State will return to home action next Friday night when the Wolfpack hosts Kent State and George Washington at 7:00 p.m.
