UNC Greensboro Shuts Out NC State, 3-0

The win was UNCG's first of the season and lifted the Spartans to 1-3. NC State absorbed its second loss and dropped to 2-2.
"We had a couple of breakdowns in the back, and that hurt us, but I thought we did some good things in this game," Wolfpack head coach Laura Kerrigan said. "We possessed the ball well today. We had some opportunities and just couldn't finish. That was frustrating, and that's what cost us the game."
The Spartans drew first blood midway through the first half. Sophomore midfielder Melissa Ennis took a rebounded shot off senior Wolfpack goalkeeper Jessica Glazer and scored the easy goal from right in front of the goal at the 23:36 mark.
UNCG's second goal also came when the ball fell loose right in front of the Wolfpack goal. This time Pearce was there to score the easy goal, at the 59:17 mark. Pearce scored the final goal of the match at the 70:37 mark on a 15-yarder off the left post.
NC State outshot the Spartans, 11-8, and two of UNCG"s three shots in the second half went for goals.
