The Wolfpack improved to 3-2 with the sudden-death victory. The Seahawks lost for the first time this season and now stand at 5-1 on the campaign.
UNCW jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 27:15 when senior forward Christy Timbers, the Colonial Athletic Association's leading scorer, drilled a 30-yard shot past Wolfpack goalkeeper Gretchen Lear.
The Pack answered back at 32:33, however, when senior midfielder Shannon Blair took a pass from Laura Scott and knocked a 15-yarder inside the left post.
The two clubs battled to a draw in a driving rain before Lavergne's game-winner with 6:03 left in the first sudden-death period. Lavergne broke through the Seahawk defense, took a chip from Rachel Durr and sent the ball into the top right corner of the net to end the game.
