Emily Gaskins was named an assistant coach for the NC State gymnastics program by head coach Kim Landrus on July 27, 2023, and is set to enter her third season with the Wolfpack in 2026.
"We are thrilled that Emily will be joining the NC State coaching staff, as we are confident she will play a key role in our success moving forward," Landrus said at the time of her hiring. "She brings a wealth of experience both as a student athlete and from her time as a graduate student coach at Alabama last year."
"Her passion for the sport, along with her attention to detail at the highest level, will have a positive impact on our program."
Gaskins' first season with the Wolfpack was the 2024 campaign, which marked NC State’s return to ACC competition for the first time since 1984. Alongside the rest of the coaching staff, she helped lead the Wolfpack to both the ACC regular season and championship titles, as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance. During the season, NC State recorded the second and third highest scores in program history with a 197.575 against Clemson on February 17 and a 197.550 at the ACC Championship on March 23.
In her second season with the Pack in 2025, Gaskins helped guide the team to its 34th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regional competition. The squad finished the year ranked No. 20 in the country, climbing eight spots from the previous season.
A former gymnast at Alabama and the team captain during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Gaskins spent the 2022–23 season as a graduate assistant coach for her alma mater. As a student-athlete, she was named a Scholastic All-American in 2019 and earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in all four years of her career. She competed in all four events throughout her time with the Crimson Tide.
In 2022, she posted a career-best score of 9.950 on floor at the NCAA Seattle Regional Championships to earn the individual title. During her junior season, she recorded a career-high all-around score of 39.525 at the NCAA Regional Finals in Tuscaloosa, including scores of 9.9 or higher on both bars and floor. Gaskins opened her collegiate career in 2019 by placing first on the uneven bars with a 9.850 in a quad meet against SEMO, NIU, and Temple.
Gaskins was a three-time member of the USA Junior National Team. In 2014, she helped lead the team to gold medals in international competitions in both Italy and Mexico as a member of the junior and senior national teams. In 2017, she earned an invitation to the USA World Team selection camp in Huntsville, Texas, and that same year, she placed third in the floor exercise at the U.S. Classic in Chicago.
She has trained alongside Olympians Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, as well as five-time national team member Morgan Hurd.
Gaskins graduated from Alabama in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in news media and a minor in anthropology. She earned her master’s degree in sports management and hospitality from Alabama in 2023.
