NC State Resumes ACC Play Against Notre Dame

RALEIGH, N.C. – ACC play returns to the Doak as NC State prepares to face Notre Dame in a three-game series beginning Thursday, April 2nd, at 6 p.m. The series continues Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. due to the Easter holiday on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on ACCNX and can be heard on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network app.
Thursday is Military Appreciation Night.
The Wolfpack (18-11) aims to end a seven-game losing streak, its longest since 2009. The Pack has suffered only a seven-game losing streak twice under head coach Elliott Avent before the current stretch, with the first occurring in 2002; NC State has never lost eight games in a row in its history.
NC State and Notre Dame last met in 2024 in Raleigh, with the Pack sweeping the Fighting Irish. The Pack has won the last five games and holds an 11-4 record at home since 1998. NC State leads the overall series 18-13 and is 6-4 in the last 10 matchups.

Freshman Rett Johnson was named a 2026 Perfect Game Midseason Freshman All-American and is also listed on the 2026 Midseason College Freshman of the Year Watchlist by Baseball America.
A spark plug at both the top and bottom of the lineup this season, Johnson has batted .400/.518/.506 with a home run, six doubles, eight stolen bases, and 21 walks to just seven strikeouts over his first 27 career appearances.
The Youngsville, N. C., native leads the team in batting average and on-base percentage, both of which rank seventh in the ACC. Johnson is the toughest in the conference, averaging 12.1 plate appearances between strikeouts.
In ACC play, Johnson is the only Wolfpack hitter with a batting average above .400 (.464). He also leads the team in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, walks, and stolen bases, and he has not committed an error in the field.
Over the course of the seven-game skid, the Wolfpack has not scored more than five runs in any of the contests. In ACC play, the Wolfpack are being outscored 35-64.
The midweek loss to Liberty marked the first time this season the Wolfpack had led after the eighth inning and went on to lose.
Luke Nixon hit his sixth career triple in the midweek. Nixon is hitting .359 on the season and has started all 29 games this season at second base. He leads the team with 30 runs scored, eight doubles, three triples, and three sac bunts. He is second in hits, total bases, sac flies, and steal attempts. His 22 RBIs are third on the team.
For the first time since 2018, the Wolfpack has stolen over 60 bases in a season. The most stolen bases by a Pack team came in 2013 when the Wolfpack swiped 110 bases.
