Denny and Trumble Advance to Quarterfinals, Six Alive After First Day of Wrestling NCAAs

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After day one of competition at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, NC State wrestling keeps six of its seven wrestlers alive in the 2026 NCAA Championships. Freshman Will Denny and sixth-year Isaac Trumble advance to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket.
Highlighted by Denny and Trumble reaching the quarterfinals, NC State wrestling keeps six of its seven qualifiers alive to day two of the 2026 NCAA Championships.
In his national tournament debut, Denny, the freshman, prevailed through to the 165 lbs quarterfinal by taking out No. 7 Max Brignola of Lehigh in sudden victory. In session three tomorrow, he will face second-seeded Joey Blaze of Purdue.
Trumble improved his season record to 18-0 by securing bonus point wins over both of his opponents today: (31) Brenan Morgan of Virginia and (15) Brady Colbert of Army. He will next face the seventh-seeded Konner Doucet of Oklahoma State.
Vincent Robinson was forced to face last year's national finalist, No. 5 seed Troy Spratley of Oklahoma State, in the second round. Although Robinson held the all-time meeting lead of 3-0, Spratley was able to defeat Robinson, finishing 8-5 over him. Moved into the consolation bracket, the redshirt-sophomore now faces No. 27 seed Brady Roark of South Dakota State tomorrow in session three.
As a team, the squad sits in 16th place with 11.5 points. The Wolfpack holds the second-highest amount of team points for a squad with seven or less wrestlers.
At 133 lbs, Zach Redding was the only wrestler to drop out of the tournament for the Pack due to an injury in his first match.
