RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 14 NC State Baseball completed its sweep of Sacred Heart with its fourth straight run-rule victory, shutting out the Pioneers 13-0 on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field. It was the fifth straight game the Wolfpack scored 10+ runs, totaling 90 runs in that span.
The Wolfpack improved to 10-1 on the season and was led by Luke Nixon, who hit his home run of the season and finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Sherman Johnson made his first career start in right field and went 2-for-4, scoring a run and driving in three.
Over the past five games, Johnson went 11-for-17 with a triple, a home run, and 12 RBI, while striking out once and walking three times.
Wyatt Peifer and Mikey Ryan each collected two RBIs, and Ryan homered for the third time this season. The Pack showed patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks while striking out just four times.
Starter Cooper Consiglio (1-1) shut down the Pioneers with five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out five. Aiden Kitchings and Ryder Garino came out of the bullpen to hold the visitors' scoring, combining to allow just three base runners.
Sunday marked the fifth time this season the Wolfpack scored in the first inning, as Nixon launched a two-run shot to right field to quickly put the Pack ahead. The Wolfpack is 7-0 when it scores first.
Four runs in the second also began with a long ball, as Ryan deposited a solo shot into the Sacred Heart bullpen. Nixon picked up his third RBI of the game with a bases-loaded walk, and Johnson broke the game open with a single on a 3-2 count with two outs, scoring two more.
Another Johnson RBI single started the scoring in the fifth, and Peifer followed with a single that brought in two.
All three of the Wolfpack runs in the sixth came without a hit, as the Pack walked five times in the frame, and a hit-by-pitch sealed the 10-run advantage.
The Pack stole four more bases, bringing its season total to 30, which already matches its total from the 2025 season. They have only been caught four times.
Entering Sunday's matchup, NC State averaged 19.3 runs per game and hit 12 home runs over a four-game span, which led all of Division One.
The Wolfpack will have another busy week at the Doak, welcoming No. 9 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Queens on Wednesday at the same time. Both games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
