Pack Runs Win Streak to Six with 82-73 win over Virginia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team (18-6, 9-2 ACC) never trailed again after an early 3-2 deficit to beat Virginia Tech (16-8, 5-6 ACC) Saturday afternoon inside a sold out Lenovo Center.
NC State has now won six straight ACC regular season games for the first time since the Pack went 12-0 in the 1973-74 season.
Quadir Copeland had another sensational performance for the Pack as he tied for team-high honors with 21 points awhile also passing out 10 assists and tied his career-high with five steals.
Paul McNeil, Jr., also scored 21 points as he made four three-pointers and went 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Tre Holloman scored 16 points, tied for the second-most he's scored in a game this season, finishing the game 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Ven-Allen Lubin also reached double figures as he had 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and led the team with seven rebounds.
A Matt Able three-pointer put the Pack in front 52-39 with 14:06 to play, but Virginia Tech responded with a 12-2 run to draw within three, 54-51, on a three-pointer with 11:20 to go.
NC State answered the Hokies run with one of its own, going on a 10-1 spurt to take a 64-52 lead with 9:20 remaining.
Virginia Tech never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
The Pack jumped out to a 20-7 lead eight minutes into the game as NC State held the Hokies to just two made field goals in the nine-and-a-half minutes of the game.
Virginia Tech used a 9-0 run to get within 20-16 and eventually got within three, 24-21, with 6:19 left in the first period, but the Pack held the Hokies scoreless for six minutes to go on a 11-0 run to take a 35-21 lead with 40 seconds remaining.
A three-point play ended Virginia Tech's scoreless streak and the Pack went into the halftime locker room with a 36-24 advantage.
Virginia Tech was led by Tobi Lawal who had 17 points and 15 rebounds in the loss. The 15 rebounds are the most for an NC State opponent this season. Amani Hansberry chipped in 19 points.
NC State will have a quick turnaround to its next game as it will play at Louisville in two days for ESPN's Big Monday. Tipoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 7 p.m.
