Pack Falls in Series Opener with Tigers

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team fell to No. 24/21 Clemson, 17-3, in five innings Friday evening at Dail Softball Stadium in the series opener.Â
The Pack moves tot 21-20 on the season and 4-12 in conference play.Â

The Pack will return to Dail on Saturday, April 12 at 5pm for game two of the series with the Tigers. The game will be streamed on ACCNX.Â

How it Happened
- The Tigers wasted no time posting a crooked number on the scoreboard as two fielder's choices and an error allowed runners to score in the opening frame.Â
- The Wolfpack responded in the bottom half of the first with a solo home run from freshman Kendall Simmers to minimize the deficit to two, 3-1.Â
- The top of the second inning saw eight Tigers cross home plate and the frame was highlighted by a grand slam from Marian Collins.Â
- NC State struggled to get going offensively as the Clemson defense continued to shut down the Pack.Â
- Clemson posted five more runs in the top of the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 17-1 lead.Â
- Two members of the Pack reached base on errors by the Tigers' infield to put two on in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Ellington Whitaker was walked to load the bases for sophomore Tori Ensley with two outs. Ensley singled to right field to bring home two to minimize the deficit, 17-3.Â
- Freshman Anna McGowan entered the circle for the first time this season and picked up her first collegiate strikeout. She finished the outing with two in 1.1 innings pitched.Â
The Pack will return to Dail on Saturday, April 12 at 5pm for game two of the series with the Tigers. The game will be streamed on ACCNX.Â
