
NC State Posts Season-Opening Win Over Towson

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State gymnastics team set a program record for its highest season-opening score with a 195.825, topping Towson's 194.425 in Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.
The Wolfpack welcomed fans back to Reynolds Coliseum for their 2025 season opener, surpassing their 2023 season-opening score of 195.525, set against ACC rival North Carolina.
Head Coach Kim Landrus expressed her excitement about the crowd's energy, saying, "First, I want to thank all our fans for coming out right after the holidays to support and cheer on Pack Gymnastics.The energy and vibe in the venue were electric."
NC State successfully hit all 24 routines in Saturday's meet, highlighted by Ashley Knight, who claimed the vault title with a 9.850, Maddie Hall, who topped the beam with a 9.850, and Syniya Thomas and Chloe Negrete, who shared the top spot on floor with scores of 9.850.
"I'm very proud of how the team carried what they've been practicing into the competition." Said Landrus. "Nerves are part of our sport, but controlling them and using them to our advantage, like the team did today, is key to our success. Hitting 24-for-24 in our first meet is a solid start."
Thomas made an impressive debut, scoring 9.800 or higher in all her events. She finished second on vault with a 9.825, third on beam with a 9.800, and tied with Negrete for first on floor with a 9.850.
VAULT (48.925)
NC State clinched the vault title in the first rotation with a 48.925. Krista Zultevicz opened with a 9.725, followed by Chloe Negrete (9.775). Freshman Syniya Thomas kicked off her collegiate debut with a 9.825, and reigning ACC Vault Champion Ashley Knight anchored the rotation with a 9.850, the highest score for the Wolfpack.
BARS (48.900)
A trio of Wolfpack gymnasts posted scores of 9.800 or higher on bars. Peyton Childs recorded a 9.825, and Elle Hadrick added a 9.800. Katie Harper anchored the event with a 9.900 to help secure NC State's team score of 48.900.
BEAM (48.950)
In the third rotation, NC State posted a team score of 48.950 on beam. Maddie Hall led the way with a 9.850, setting a new career high. Syniya Thomas earned a 9.800, while Chloe Negrete capped the rotation with a 9.825.
FLOOR (49.050)
The Wolfpack wrapped up the meet with their highest event score of the day, a 49.050 on floor. Meg Adler, competing for the first time on floor for NC State, scored a 9.825. Thomas and Negrete both posted 9.850s, while Knight earned a 9.825.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack will head to Oklahoma City, Okla. for the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad on Friday, Jan. 10, at the Paycom Center. Landrus looks ahead, saying, "I'm confident the team will use this meet to fuel them in their preparations for next weekend as we look forward to competing in the prestigious Sprouts Farmers Market Invitational."
