
Pack Falls at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team dropped a road contest at Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Demon Deacons, 77-59, at LVJM Coliseum.
Dontrez Styles posted his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Marcus Hill led the Pack with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Michael O'Connell was the only other NC State player to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points.
NC State took an early 3-2 lead on an O'Connell three-pointer on the Pack's first offensive possession of the game, but Wake Forest responded to O'Connell's basket with a 17-1 run taking a 19-4 lead with 13:21 to play in the opening half.
The Pack calmed down after the tough start, going on a 13-4 run to get the margin down to six with 8:47 left in the first half. After Wake Forest opened the lead back to double digits, NC State went on another run, this one a 9-0 spurt, to get within two with 3:59 left before halftime.
NC State could never catch Wake Forest in the first half though as the Demon Deacons pushed their advantage back to six, 38-32, at intermission.
NC State scored the first four points of the second half to get within two points of Wake Forest for the third time on the day, but again could get no closer.
Wake Forest led 45-41 with 15:27 when the Deacs went on a 12-2 run to open up a 57-43 lead with 12:11 to go.
The Pack would not get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Wake Forest finished the game with a 38-20 advantage in paint points, the largest margin NC State has been outscored by in the paint this season.
Wake Forest was led by Hunter Sallis who scored a game-high 20 points while Juke Harris added 17 points off the bench.
NC State returns to the Lenovo Center for the first time in 17 days Wednesday, Jan. 8 when it hosts Notre Dame. Tipoff against the Fighting Irish is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
