Emily Shepard Named WCGA Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State gymnastics' Emily Shepard was named the NCAA's Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year on Wednesday, as announced by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association.
Shepard has now won a pair of WCGA Regional Gymnast of the Year awards during her time at NC State, having previously won the Region Five Gymnast of the Year crown in 2021.
An incredible season for the fifth-year senior saw her claim the ACC's inaugural conference Gymnast of the Year crown, compiling a seven-week stretch of ACC Gymnast of the Week awards while adding 19 scores of 9.9+ and a team-best 39 podium finishes.
Shepard was the only gymnast in the ACC to receive All-Conference honors in all four events and the all-around, while her performance at the ACC Championship led to All-Championship honors on bars, beam, floor and the all-around in addition to becoming the league's all-around champion at 39.500.
Shepard's 2024 campaign was highlighted by firing the highest all-around total in program history during the Pack's Feb. 17 dual meet against Clemson. Shepard's 39.750 also marked the top all-around total ever fired by a gymnast at an ACC school, eclipsing a 20-year record previously held by North Carolina's Courtney Bumpers while becoming the first gymnast in NC State history to record a 9.9+ score on all four events during the same meet.
Now a 20-time All-Conference selection and a 15-time All-Championship selection throughout her career, Shepard has won two conference all-around champion awards while registering three conference Gymnast of the Year awards during her tenure as well. An instrumental piece of the Wolfpack's 2024 success, Shepard also holds the program record for scores of 9.9+ in her career at 57 as NC State heads to the Ann Arbor Regional.
Shepard and the rest of the Wolfpack return to action on Thursday, Apr. 4, as 16th-ranked NC State meets Oklahoma, Ohio State and Illinois in the evening session of the second round at the Ann Arbor Regional.
