
NC State Takes Down No. 2 South Carolina

Columbia, SC- The Wolfpack defeated No. 2 South Carolina 4-3 in a nailbiter Friday, Feb. 2 giving the Pack their biggest win in program history!
The Wolfpack have faced a number of difficulties this season, falling short to ranked Harvard and Duke. The Pack headed into Friday's match shocking everyone, with the most impressive wins in program history over a ranked opponent!
Statement from head coach Kyle Spencer:
"Great effort from our team today on the road in a fun environment! Big credit to South Carolina for pushing us all the way to the end. Proud of the resiliency of this group today. Another big match at home vs a top 10 Columbia team on Sunday. Pack Risin'!!!"
The Pack played a tense doubles match but came out strong in the with juniors Fons Van Sambeek and Braden Shick handedly securing the first win against Jelani Sarr and Lucas Andrade da Silva 6-1. On court 2, junior Joe Wayand and sophomore Martin Borisiouk gave a strong showing, though eventually falling to Casey Hoole and Jamey Story of South Carolina 6-4. Rounding out the doubles matchups, Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli secured the doubles point for the Pack leading Toby Samuel and Connor Thomson throughout their 6-4 win.
The Gamecocks had an explosive first singles match with Sean Daryabeigi defeating Joe Wayand 6-1, 6-3. Regaining the lead for the Pack, Martin Borisiouk put the first point on the board winning back to back sets defeating opponent Carter Morgan in a 7-6, 6-1.
South Carolina creeped back into the game taking two straight-set wins on courts two and five to bring the score neck in neck.Braden Shick defeated opponent Lucas Da Silva in a three set match. After dropping his first set, Shick came back in the last two, giving the Pack a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over the gamecocks. Shick put the Pack in Clinch position with Staeheli remaining on court three.
Senior Luca Staeheli was the last man on the court with the match tied 3-3. He fell short in his first set 5-7 but bounced back in the second set keeping the Pack alive in a tiebreaker. Keeping the momentum, Staeheli commandeered the court in the third set, beating his opponent Jelani Sarr 6-1 as his team rushed the court to celebrate history in the making.
