Two Players Finish Inside Top 20 at Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team finished in seventh place out of 17 teams at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, paced by Marie Eline Madsen's third place and Ellise Rymer's 19th place showings. NC State carded a 31-over 871 (292-287-292) across the three days at Finley Golf Course, as the team played in the first women's tournament at the course since the renovation.
Madsen carded an even 210 (68-73-69) to pick up a career best tie for third. In the opening round, she registered a 2-under 68 behind five birdies, 10 pars and three bogeys. Going into the second round, Madsen was tied for second and just one stroke off first. On Saturday, Madsen logged a 73 with two birdies, 12 pars, three bogeys and one double bogey. In the third round, she recorded her fourth round in the 60s this season with a 1-under 69 with four birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys. Madsen led the tournament field with a 4.22 par 5s average and tied for the fourth most birdies with 11.
Ellise Rymer was the second finisher for the Pack with a 7-over 217 (76-71-70) to round out in a tie for 19th place for her first top 20 finish of the season, third of her career. She started the weekend with a 6-over 76. In the second round, she finished with a 1-over 71, doing so behind five birdies, eight pars, four bogeys and one double bogey. Her performance on Saturday bumped her up outside the top 30 going into the third round. On Sunday, Rymer started on the sixth tee and logged seven straight pars before a bogey on 13. She finished with one birdie, 16 pars and one bogey on Sunday to card an even 70 to round out the weekend.
Lauren Olivares Leon tallied a tie for 37th with an 11-over 221 (73-72-76). She started the weekend with a 3-over 73 with one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys. Sitting just outside the top 20 going into the second round, Olivares Leon made some moves on Saturday with a 2-over 72 with two birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys. The senior finished the weekend with a 6-over 76 on Sunday.
Vania Simont finished in a tie for 48th with a 14-over 224 (76-71-77). Simont started the weekend with a 6-over 76, but found her stride in round two with a 1-over 71, going 2-under on the back nine to finish Saturday's round with three birdies, 12 pars, two bogeys and one double bogey. She finished the weekend with a 7-over 77 in the third round.
Caitlin Whitehead placed in a tie for 71st with a 23-over 223 (75-81-77). Whitehead logged a 5-over 75 on Friday and an 11-over 81 on Saturday. In the final round, she started out strong with back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 before finishing the third round with a 7-over 77.
Jaclyn Kenzel represented the Pack as an individual, finishing with a 28-over 238 (80-77-81) to place in a tie for 81st. Kenzel finished the weekend with three birdies and 25 pars.
NC State led the field with the best par 5s average at 4.78 and a tie for the fourth most pars with 164.
