Negrete Tabs Pair of 9.900 Scores
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – NC State Gymnastics improved on its opening meet score by an impressive 1.450 margin on Saturday evening as the Wolfpack competed in a quad meet alongside BYU, Cal, and Michigan State. The Wolfpack finished the evening with a 195.675, highlighted by an all-around total of 39.150 from Emily Shepard while Chloe Negrete registered a pair of 9.900 scores on vault and floor.
No. 6 Cal claimed the team title of the four-team contest with an impressive 197.875 final score, while 14th-ranked Michigan State finished the night in second place at 196.725. BYU finished the evening at 196.100, with Cal's eMjae Frazier taking all-around champion honors with a score of 39.775, the best individual all-around score of any gymnast in the country so far this season.
Floor (49.000)
NC State began the evening on floor where Negrete's 9.900 from the anchor position led the way for the Wolfpack. Krista Zultevicz tabbed a 9.800 in her first of three events, while Shepard matched freshman Maddie Hall with a 9.775. Hall was one of three freshman to both compete and count a score for the Pack, including Ashley Knight rounding out NC State's scoring effort on floor with a 9.750.
Vault (49.175)
The Wolfpack's best event of the night came during the second rotation, with the Pack's 49.175 matching the team's highest score on vault from any meet in the 2023 campaign. It was once again Negrete who led the way for the Wolfpack with a 9.900, with all five of NC State's counted scores coming in at 9.8+. Meg Adler, Alexis Ortega, and Shepard each posted a 9.800 in the event, while Knight registered a stout 9.875 from the fourth spot in the lineup.
Bars (48.750)
Ortega's 9.800 on bars was the Pack's top score in the team's penultimate rotation, with Shepard, Hall, and bars specialist Peyton Childs each registering a 9.775. Freshman Katie Harper tabbed her second-straight counted score to start her career, following up last week's debut with a 9.625.
Beam (48.750)
NC State's evening ended on beam, where a 9.800 from Shepard followed by a 9.825 from Negrete in the fifth and sixth lineup spots led the way for the Wolfpack. Beam specialist Macy Jennings added a 9.750, while a 9.725 from Adler and a 9.650 from Ortega contributed to the Pack's total.

The Wolfpack will compete in its first ACC meet since 1984 on Friday, Jan. 19, in its next time out, as NC State is slated to compete in a dual meet against in-state foe North Carolina. The Pack's league opener is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time and will be held at UNC's Carmichael Arena. The meet will be streamed on ACC Network Extra on the WatchESPN app.
