
Gymnastics Picks Up First-Round NCAA Championship Win

The Pack Outscored Ball State in Three of Four Events
NORMAN, Okla. – The NC State gymnastics team became the first team to advance in the 2023 NCAA Gymnastics Championships on Wednesday with a 196.075-195.375 victory over Ball State.
The afternoon was highlighted by Emily Shepard claiming the all-around crown with a 39.475, driven by two 9.900 scores on bars and floor, both of which claimed event champion titles for the meet. Chloe Negrete's 9.875 mark on beam additionally resulted in an individual event title as well.
Vault (48.650)
The Pack began its afternoon on vault where a stick from Emily Shepard engineered a 9.850 score to lead the way for the Wolfpack. Gabrielle Diaz led off the event at 9.700, while Lauren Rutherford posted a 9.775. Chloe Negrete anchored the event at 9.675, while a pair of 9.650 marks from Krista Zultevicz and Alexis Ortega rounded out the NC State scoring effort.
Bars (49.225)
The Wolfpack matched its season-high score on bars during its second rotation at 49.225. The Pack's third tally of 49.225 in 2023 marked the ninth time in the last three seasons the NC State has posted a total of 49.225+ on bars, having only done so six times from 2005-2000. The Pack only counted scores of 9.800+, as freshman Kailee Adomaites led off the event at 9.800 while Meredith Robinson tied her season-high score of 9.825. A pair of 9.850 totals from Ortega and Rutherford over the last three routines capped an impressive event for the Pack.
Beam (49.175)
For the 12th time this season, it was Negrete who posted the Pack's highest score on beam. Negrete anchored the third rotation at 9.875, while Zultevicz posted the event's second-highest score at 9.850. Diaz and Shepard each finished with totals of 9.825 while beam specialist Macy Jennings completed the scoring effort at 9.800.
Floor (49.025)
Shepard's second score of 9.900 on the afternoon came during the Pack's final rotation, improving her career total to a program record 37 9.9+ tallies. Diaz continued a solid afternoon in the leadoff spot at 9.850, followed by Ortega in the second lineup spot at 9.800. Zultevicz's day ended with a 9.825, while Negrete anchored at 9.650.
