Wolfpack Travels to Ole Miss for ITA Kickoff

RALEIGH - The NC State men's tennis team (2-0) is set to compete at the Oxford, Miss., regional of the ITA Kickoff Jan. 29-30.Â
Each team will play two matches during the weekend. If NC State wins both matches, it will punch its ticket to the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships hosted by Washington Feb. 18-21.
The Pack will compete against No. 25 Illinois (1-1) Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m EST after 18th-ranked Ole Miss (3-0) and No. 22 Oklahoma (5-0) play at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 will see NC State take on either Oklahoma or Ole Miss. The consolation match will take place Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. EST and the championship match is slated for 3 p.m. EST.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS
Junior Robin Catry currently holds a singles ranking of No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, a career-high placement.
SCOUTING THE ILLINI
Illinois opened dual match play with a doubleheader, falling to then-No. 6 Ohio State, 4-0, before defeating Chicago State in a 4-0 decision.Â
Currently, three members of the Illinois squad are ranked in the ITA singles rankings. Olivier Stuart maintains the highest ranking at No. 97 and is followed by Alex Brown (No. 113) and Kweisi Kenyatte (No. 116).
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
Oklahoma remains undefeated in 2022 with a 5-0 record. Most recently, the Sooners defeated Nebraska, 5-2
A trio of Sooners singles competitors are ranked with Mason Beiler checking in at 31st, Mark Mandlik sitting at 49th and Jordan Hasson holding the No. 54 position.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
Ole Miss has charted wins over Tennessee State and Alabama to begin its season 3-0.Â
Nikola Slavic is ranked 28th in the ITA singles rankings, and Finn Reynolds checks in at No. 44. Reynolds is additionally ranked in doubles with John Hallquist Lithen at No. 24.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pack defeated Princeton and Campbell to open its season, winning the doubles point in both matches and dropping just one singles match between the two. Yannai Barkai and Collin Shick recorded a ranked doubles victory over No. 27 Tomas Balazi and Leon Petko of Campbell, and with the win the duo was named ACC Doubles Team of the Week.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack begins a three-match home stretch Friday, Feb. 4 as it welcomes No. 7 Georgia to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
