Catry Takes Singles Crown at Duke Bonk Invitational

CARY, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis program completed action at the Duke Bonk Invitational on Sunday, coming home with a win by Robin Catry in the singles A draw final and a third-place finish by Fons Van Sambeek and Collin Shick in the doubles A draw.
FRIDAY'S MATCHES
The Wolfpack brought home five wins on the first day of action at the tournament with Catry and Joseph Schrader posting singles victories.
Catry defeated North Carolina's Logan Zapp 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the singles A draw quarterfinals while fourth-seeded Schrader moved into the C draw quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Elon's Ben Zipay.
The duo of Van Sambeek and Shick slotted a win in the quarterfinals of the doubles A draw on Friday, defeating Kyle Frankel and Camilo Ponce of Elon 6-2.
SATURDAY'S MATCHES
Catry tabbed his second and third wins of the tournament on Saturday, defeating ETSU's Frazier Rengifo in a 6-1, 6-3 decision before getting the 6-1, 6-4 win over Josh Wilson of Liberty. The pair of wins sent Catry to Sunday's final.
Despite a loss on Friday, Martins Rocens posted a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Joaquim Almeida of VCU in the singles B draw quarterfinals on Saturday.
SUNDAY'S MATCHES
It was an easy 6-2, 6-3 win for Catry in the singles A draw final on Sunday over two-seed Sid Banthia (Wake Forest), and Rocens won his B draw consolation third place match against VCU's Gray Voelzke handily by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Schrader claimed third place in the singles C draw with a victory by walkover, and Collin Shick took home third place on the consolation side of the bracket with a gutsy 7-5, 7-6(5) win over Zipay.
