Steinlechner and Oxendine in Top-Five; Pack in Second at Rod Myers Invitational

Steinlechner shot nine-under par on Saturday

DURHAM, N.C. – NC State's Maximilian Steinlechner and Spencer Oxendine combined to shoot 15-under par on Saturday as both sit in the top-five on the individual leaderboard and the Pack is in second place as a team after day one of the Rod Myers Invitational.
Steinlechner posted rounds of 67 and 68 on Saturday and is in second place, two shots back of the leader with one round to go. The Innsbruck, Austria native sandwiched a bogey to start and end his round around seven birdies on the opening 18 to shoot five-under par. In the second round, Steinlechner had three birdies and an eagle against just one bogey.
The junior posted five top-five performances in ten events last season, including two runner-up finishes.
Spencer Oxendine put together the best day of his NC State on Saturday as he shot back-to-back rounds of 69 to sit at six-under par and in a five-way tie for fourth place. The Fayetteville, N.C., native had four birdies and just one bogey in the first round and followed that performance up with two birdies, an eagle and a bogey in the second.
Tim Bunten, making his NC State debut, is next for the Pack in 20th place. After an opening round, one-over par 73, Bunten shot a three-under par 69 in the second. Bunten had four birdies and one bogey in his stellar second round.
Ethan Choi and Easton Paxton round out the NC State lineup in a tie for 43rd place. Choi shot a three-over par 75 in the first round and had a one-over par 73 in the second round. Paxton rounds out the Pack's lineup in a tie for 43rd place after rounds of 71 and 77 on Saturday.
Brandon Einstein and Jake Herring both made their NC State debuts on Saturday competing as individuals. Einstein is alone in 22nd place at one-under par after rounds of 73 and 70. Herring is in a tie for 62nd place at eight-over par.
As a team, NC State shot 17-under par on Saturday to hold a nine shot lead on third place North Florida. North Carolina is in the lead at 25-under par.
The third and final round is Sunday morning with the first NC State golfer going off of hole number one at 9:17.
