
Pack Opens Season with Second Place Finish at Rod Myers Invitational

Junior Maximilian Steinlechner notches third career second place finish

DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team completed its opening weekend Sunday with a second place finish out of 14 teams at the Rod Myers Invitational held at the Duke University Golf Club.
Junior Maximilian Steinlechner led NC State throughout the weekend. He posted a five-under 67 in the first round and followed up with a 68 in the second round. On Sunday, he fired a four-under 68 to finish the tournament in second place at 13-under par.
It's the sixth top-five finish of Steinlechner's career and third career second place finish. The 54-hole score of 13-under par ties for Steinlechner's career best and is tied for the fifth-best 54-hole score related to par in program history.
Tim Bunten, making his NC State debut, had a stellar round on Sunday, posting five birdies and zero bogeys to post a team-best 67 in the third round. Bunten finished with a 54-hole score of seven-under par to finish in sixth place.
Spencer Oxendine was next for the Pack in a tie for 16th place. The Fayetteville, N.C. native was fantastic on Saturday, posting back-to-back rounds of 69 to sit in fourth place heading into the final round, some trouble on the back nine on Sunday cost Oxendine a top-ten finish but he still finished the tournament with a score of two-under par to finish in a tie for 16th place.
Ethan Choi got better every round of the tournament, finishing with a two-under par 70 on Sunday. Choi finished in a tie for 23rd place at two-over par.
Easton Paxton rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 45th place at eight-over par.
Competing as an individual, Brandon Einstein had a stellar NC State debut as the junior finished in a tie for 16th place at two-under par. Jake Herring, also made his NC State debut this weekend, and finished in a tie for 61st place at 12-over par.
North Carolina won the tournament by three shots over NC State. The Wolfpack trailed by eight shots heading into Sunday's final round, but quickly closed the gap on the Tar Heels. Tournament-host Duke finished in third place, 16 shots back of the Pack.
The Pack returns to action Monday, Oct. 4 when it begins play at the Mountaineer Invitational in Bridgeport, W. Va.
