RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (1-0-2) is set to host No. 10 South Carolina Sunday (2-0-0) in its first home match of the season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium, and the contest will be broadcast on ACC Network with Jenn Hildreth and Angela Hucles on the call.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State made the short trip to Campbell on Thursday evening and battled to a 1-1 (2OT) draw.
Annika Wohner found the back of the net in the 23rd minute when she placed a free kick at the top of the 18-yard box into the upper right corner, but Campbell's Elyssa Nowowieski scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute to tie things up.
In total the squad held a 16-12 advantage over Campbell throughout the 110 minutes, and controlled possession for a majority of the match at 54 percent.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the ninth meeting between the Wolfpack and Gamecocks, and South Carolina, who won the SEC East and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, leads the all-time series, 6-2-0.
The teams last met on August 22, 2019, in Columbia, S.C., and South Carolina escaped with a 2-1 victory with a pair of second half goals. The last time the teams met in Raleigh, NC State came away victorious with a 2-1 result with second-half goals by Tziarra King and Kia Rankin.
A SOLID START
The Wolfpack started its season with three consecutive matches on the road, and will head into its home opener Sunday undefeated. The squad opened its slate with a quality 2-2 (2OT) draw at No. 9 Georgetown on August 19, then earned a 2-1 win at Old Dominion on August 22 before its result at Campbell on Thursday. Both ODU and Campbell have veteran teams who returned several of its top players from last season.
