
Pack Tied For Lead after Day One of NCAA Kingston Springs Regional

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – The NC State men's golf team shot a score of seven-under par on Monday at the Golf Club of Tennessee and is tied for first place after one round of the 2021 NCAA Kingston Springs Regional.
The Pack's team score of 277 is the fourth lowest round in program history in an NCAA Regional, while the score of seven-under par is tied for the fourth-lowest in program history in an NCAA Regional.
Sophomore Maximilian Steinlechner led the Pack with a five-under par 66 on Monday. The Innsbruck, Austria native had six birdies on the day with his lone bogey occurring on the 13th hole as he is in second place, one shot back of the leader.
The 66 tied for Steinlechner's career-low 18-hole score. It is tied for the fourth-lowest 18-hole score by an NC State golfer in an NCAA Regional.
Benjamin Shipp was next for the Pack with a two-under score of 69. Shipp made the turn at even-par, but had four birdies on the back nine and is in a tie for eighth place.
Shipp has now completed 13 consecutive rounds at par or better.
Christian Salzer is in a tie for 15th place at one-under par, 70. Salzer posted four birdies on the day.
Carter Graf and Easton Paxton are next for the Pack in a tie for 30th place at one-over par. Graf made the turn at two-over par, but had three birdies on the back nine to go under par before a double bogey on 18 put him at 72 for the day. Like Graf, Paxton had a tough ending to an otherwise outstanding day as the Riverton, Wyo., native was three-under par through 12 holes, but four bogeys on the final six holes left him at one-over for the day.
NC State is tied for the lead with Kent State at seven-under par. Regional host Vanderbilt and Houston are tied for third, two shots back of the Pack and Golden Flashes. San Diego State is in fifth place, two shots back of Vandy and Houston.
The top five teams, and the low individual not on one of those teams, will advance to the NCAA Championship.
