
Steinlechner Takes Second; Pack Third at Wake Forest Invite at No. 2

Steinlechner finishes one-shot back of the leader in finest performance of his young career

PINEHURST, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team finished in third place and sophomore Max Steinlechner finished in second on the individual leaderboard as play concluded Tuesday at the Wake Forest Invite held at Pinehurst No. 2.
Sophomore Max Steinlechner stayed near the top of the leaderboard all tournament. He was co-leader after the first round and started the third round in a tie for fifth place. On Tuesday, after an opening hole bogey, the sophomore recovered with four birdies to close the tourney with a final scorecard of 68-71-67 to finish four-under par, one shot back of the medalist.
Benjamin Shipp was next for the Pack in a tie for fifth place. After opening with a 74, Shipp went under-par in the second and third rounds to close the three-round tourney at even-par with a final three-round tally of 74-67-69.
Playing unattached, Carter Graf closed his first collegiate tourney of the season with a top-15 finish. The sophomore shot an even-par 70 in the opening round and had a 73 and 72 in the ensuing rounds to finish in 13th place at five-over par for the invite.
Easton Paxton posted another top-20 finish as he finished in a tie for 20th place at nine-over par.
Christian Salzer got better every round he played, posting a two-over par 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 32nd place at 12-over par.
Spencer Oxendine rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 56th place.
The Pack moved up one spot on Tuesday's play, passing Duke to finish in third place out of 12 teams. Tournament-host Wake Forest won the tournament by nine shots with North Carolina coming in second.
NC State returns to action Sunday, March 14 when it begins play at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
