NC State Blows Past Demon Deacons

RALEIGH – After gaining a 6-5 lead in the first set, NC State never trailed again en route to a dominant 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-9) win over Wake Forest in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action on Sunday afternoon inside of Reynolds Coliseum.
The Pack (9-8, 3-3 ACC) hit an outstanding .330 while limiting the Demon Deacons (10-7, 1-5 ACC) to a .057 percentage to earn its 10th consecutive win over Wake Forest dating back to 2014.
Junior Taylor Rowland led the offensive charge with a match-high tying 11 kills on a season-best .409 hitting percentage and a season-high tying two service aces to go along with five digs. Graduate student Melissa Evans added 11 kills of her own with five digs.
Junior Kristen McDaniel controlled the offense with a match-high 21 assists, nearly recording a double-double as she tallied nine digs. Graduate student Kaylee Frazier served as the libero and recorded a game-best 10 digs while also racking up a season-high five assists. Sophomore Riley Shaak filled the stat sheet as she posted a trio of kills with a service ace and a career-high six blocks.
Set One (NC State 25, Wake Forest 20)
NC State began the game slow, falling to an early 4-1 deficit. The Pack was able to settle down and tie the score at 5-5 and 6-6 before taking the lead at 7-6 off a service error that gave the Wolfpack enough momentum to hold off Wake in set one.
Set Two (NC State 25, Wake Forest 15)
The second set was completely opposite of the first as the Pack was able to jump out to a quick 4-0 that Wake Forest was unable to battle back from. NC State hit .300 in the set with all five attackers recording at least two kills. Additionally, NC State reeled off four service aces including back-to-back aces from freshman Jada Allen to close out the second set.
Set Three (NC State 25, Wake Forest 9)
The final set was all NC State as the Pack hit .727 with 17 kills and only one error. The Wolfpack's defense stepped up in the final frame as the team recorded three blocks and 18 digs to limit any offensive hope for the Demon Deacons. The Deacs hit -.033 in the set with four kills and five errors.
Up Next
NC State will begin a stretch of five road games in its next six matches beginning with a Friday contest in New York against Syracuse on Oct. 15 at noon. The Pack will close the weekend trip with a noon contest against Boston College on Sunday.
