Wolfpack Ties Third-Best Season Score in Quad-Meet Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The NC State gymnastics team visited East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponent George Washington with Northern Illinois and Temple on Sunday, posting a 196.025 and placing first out of the four teams. George Washington recorded a 195.900, Northern Illinois notched a 195.450 and Temple recorded a 195.075.
The Wolfpack began the meet on bars and compiled its second-highest score of the season in the event with a 49.175. The score marks the second consecutive meet in which the team has crossed the 49.00 threshold in the rotation.
Freshman Emily Shepard got things started for NC State with a 9.875 and was followed by four consecutive 9.825 scores achieved by senior Drew Grantham, sophomore Meredith Robinson, junior Katie Cox and junior Lauren Kent. Shepard tied for first place in the rotation.
Beam was the second event of the day for the team, and NC State posted a 48.900 team score. Senior Alexis Beucler was the first member of the Wolfpack to compete in the event, posting a 9.825 while Kent notched a 9.800. Freshman Chloe Negrete achieved the highest score on the team in the event with a 9.875 and tied for a second-place finish while Grantham posted a 9.825.
On floor, Kent led off action for the Wolfpack with a 9.800 while Shepard earned a 9.850. Grantham posted a 9.925 for the second consecutive meet and took first place. The senior has recorded a 9.900 or higher on floor in each of the Wolfpack's last four meets. Her score is the 10th 9.900 or higher score of her career in the event.
With her 9.925 in the meet, Grantham moves into fourth place in program history for number of career 9.900 or higher scores with 17 across all events.
As a team, NC State compiled its fifth-straight 49.000 or higher floor score with a 49.050.
On vault, Shepard posted the highest score on the team with a 9.850 and tied for the top finish in the event. Beucler tied her career best with a 9.800. The Wolfpack completed the event with a 48.900.
Kent took second place in the all-around with a 39.200, a career-high score for the junior.
