Gymnastics Posts Season-Best 195.650 in Meeting with Towson

RALEIGH - The NC State gymnastics team hosted its first home meet of the season on Saturday, welcoming East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponent Towson to Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum and defeating the Tigers 195.650-193.975. The Wolfpack set season-high team scores in all four events.
NC State started the meet on vault, as freshman Emily Shepard recorded a 9.850 for first place, and fellow freshman Chloe Negrete scored a 9.800 to finish in second place, also setting a personal best in the event. Junior Lauren Kent rounded out the podium for the Wolfpack with a career-high 9.775. As a team, NC State turned in a 48.875.
On bars the Wolfpack turned in the top five scores in the event and en route team total of 49.050. Senior Drew Grantham tied her career-high in the event with a 9.825. Shepard also recorded a 9.825, topping her previous high. The pair tied for first place in the event. Sophomore Meredith Robinson, junior Katie Cox and Kent all scored a 9.800 to tie for third place.
Beam was the third rotation of the day for NC State, and the team charted a 48.775. Grantham led the way for the Wolfpack with a 9.825. Four of the top five places were captured by NC State. Negrete earned a top-three finish, coming in second place with a career-best 9.775.
The final rotation of the meet for the Wolfpack was floor, on which the team scored a 48.950. Grantham turned in the best performance among the team with a 9.875 for a first-place finish, while teammate Negrete finished in her second place and turned in the highest score in her career in the event with a 9.850. Junior Kasey Nelson recorded a 9.750 in the event for a career-high.
Grantham (39.250) and Kent (39.050) earned the top-two finishes in all-around.
