RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior captain Alexis Galarneau will begin competition at the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship as he meets top-seeded Nuno Borges of Mississippi State in the first round Monday morning at 11 a.m. All of the matches for the national tournament will be played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Galarneau was selected for the NCAA Singles Championships for the second season in a row, making him the first Wolfpack player since at least the 2000 season to receive back-to-back bids for singles competition at the national tournament.
The Laval, Canada native put together another stellar season playing at the top singles spot for the Wolfpack. Galarneau went 16-9 during 2019 dual match play, with seven of his wins coming against nationally-ranked opponents. He beat the nation's No. 15 player on two occasions during his junior campaign, as his wins against Georgia's Emil Reinberg and Virginia's Carl Söderlund marked the highest ranked victories of his career.
Galarneau has been ranked in the national top 25 since the March 5 edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I rankings and has not fallen outside of the top 45 this season.
Galarneau became just the fourth player in program history to garner All-ACC status at least three times in his career as he was named a member of the First Team All-ACC for the second team in a row. He also garnered ITA regional honors as he was named Player to Watch for the Carolina region.
The NCAA Singles Championships will run from May 20-25, with one round of action played per day. The individual national champion will be crowned on Saturday, May 25.
