RALEIGH, N.C. - The 25th-ranked NC State men's tennis team picked up its third consecutive ACC win Friday evening, beating Georgia Tech 5-2 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. With the win, the Wolfpack improves to 14-5, 4-4 ACC and the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-12, 1-6 ACC.
"What a battle," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "I thought Georgia Tech did a really good job of making this a fight after we played a really good doubles point, but credit to our guys. I'm just really proud of the effort of the guys."
For the fourth match in a row, NC State snagged the opening point to take a 1-0 lead in the team score after doubles.
Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic, the nation's 67th-ranked duo, took care of Elijah Melendez and Chris Yun, defeating the Yellow Jackets pair 6-1 on court two. Tadas Babelis and Georgiy Malyshev also picked up a doubles win as they beat Georgia Tech's Phillip Gresk and Andrew Li 6-2 on court three.
No. 37 Alexis Galarneau earned the Pack's first singles win in straight sets. Playing against No. 64 Divar on court one, the NC State sophomore cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory, his sixth win against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
The Yellow Jackets drew within one, as Chris Yun defeated Robert Turzak 7-5, 6-0 on court six.
Malyshev extended NC State's lead with a straight-sets win on court five, taking down Melendez 6-3, 7-5 to put the Pack a match away from the clinch.
