
Pack Begins Three-Game Road Stint With Match At Virginia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - After opening ACC action with back-to-back home matches, the No. 16 NC State men's tennis team heads to Blacksburg, Va. for its first conference road match at Virginia Tech. The Wolfpack will square off against the Hokies at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center as both squads look to earn their first conference win of the season.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Pack fell to 17th-ranked Duke in a 6-1 decision Friday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Blue Devils claimed the doubles point and five singles wins, with Alexis Galarneau giving NC State its only point of the day in a straight-sets singles win on court one.
WOLFPACK IN THE RANKINGS:
NC State is No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA Men's National Team Rankings, which ties the Wolfpack's season high and marks the fourth-straight week that the team has landed in the top 25.
In the individual rankings, Alexis Galarneau is No. 22 in singles. In doubles, Galarneau and Michael Ogden sit at No. 38, and Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic sit at No. 45.
The newest set of team and individual rankings is set to be released on Tuesday, March 20.Â
PACK TRACKS:
Galarneau secured his fifth win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season as he took care of No. 25 Nicolas Alvarez of Duke on Friday afternoon.Â
Igor is approaching 50 career singles wins. The junior, who ranks second on the team with 15 singles wins this season, has tallied 49 victories with the Wolfpack heading into the match against Virginia Tech.Â
SCOUTING THE HOKIES:
Virginia Tech enters Sunday's matchup with a 9-4 overall record and has only dropped one match at home this dual season. The Hokies have an 0-3 ACC record through its early matches of conference play, with losses to UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, and top-ranked Wake Forest.Â
Mitch Harper is Virginia Tech's only ranked player, checking in at No. 45.Â
The teams last met in the second round of the 2017 ACC Championship in a match that the Wolfpack won by a 4-3 score to advance to the quarterfinal round.Â
