Stephen Franken Tied For Second after First Day of General Hackler

Pack in sixth place, one shot back of a tie for fourth place
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - NC State men's golf junior Stephen Franken sits in tie for second place on the individual leaderboard and the Pack is in sixth place out of 15 teams after two rounds of play at the General Hackler Championship held at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
Franken shot a one-under-par 71 in the first round, before shooting a 69 in the second round to stand in a three-way tie for second place, one shot back of tournament leader Philip Barbaree of LSU. The NC State junior is on pace for his sixth top-five finish in seven tournaments this season.
As a team, NC State is in sixth place, just one shot back of LSU and Virginia who are tied for fourth. The Pack shot rounds of 290 and 292 and are six-over-par for the tournament.Â
The two top-10 teams in the tournament are on top of the leaderboard as eighth-ranked Georgia Tech has a two-shot lead on second-ranked Texas A&M. Kentucky is in third place, seven shots back of the Aggies, while the Tigers and Cavaliers are in fourth five shots back of the Wildcats.
Freshman Easton Paxton is in a tie for 20th place. The lone freshman on the Pack's roster carded a 71-74 for a one-over par score after two rounds.
Benjamin Shipp is next for the Pack in a tie for 24th place. Shipp shot a 72-74 to stand one shot back of Paxton with a two-round score of two-over par.
Nolan Mills Jr., is in a tie for 58th place after a two-round score seven-over par (76-75), while Christian Salzer is in a tie for 79th place after two rounds of 78.
The third and final round starts tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. The Pack's contingent will start on holes 7 through 10.
