CLINTON, S.C. – Led by a final-round 68 and fifth-place finish from sophomore Stephen Franken, the NC State men's golf team completed play at the 2017 ACC Championship Saturday in fifth place.

Initially scheduled to take place over the course of three days, inclement weather in Sunday's forecast resulted in 36 holes being played on Saturday at Musgrove Mill Golf Course. NC State entered the second round in fifth place, shot a 289 (+1) in Saturday's first round to move up to fourth, and ultimately finished fifth in the field of 12 teams after shooting a 293 (+5) during the final round of play.

No. 21 Duke won the team title at 850 strokes (-14). No. 15 Clemson finished second at 862 (-2) and No. 9 Wake Forest took third at 867 (+3). NC State finished ahead of two schools ranked within the national top 25, defeating No. 16 Virginia by one stroke as well as both No. 20 Georgia Tech and UNC-CH by 10 strokes.

In addition to Franken earning the eighth top-10 result of his young career and finishing just one stroke away from forcing a five-golfer playoff for medalist honors, Harrison Rhoades finished tied for 18th in the field of 60 golfers with a three-round score of 219 (+3). Nolan Mills Jr. (T25) and Jacob McBride (T27) also finished in the top half of the tournament field.
